Claims – Substantiation & Details

BiOBUDDi® building blocks are made of more than 90% “Braskem I’m green™ “ bio-based HDPE (material code 2),
a material recognized for its sustainability and circular potential.

Made in Europe
MADE IN THE EU
Recyclable
RECYCLABLE

What does this mean?

  • BiOBUDDi® building blocks are made primarily from ” Braskem I’m green™ “ bio-based HDPE (material code 2)”, which is chemically identical to conventional HDPE and accepted in standard HDPE recycling streams where facilities exist.
  • The “Braskem I’m green™ “ material can be collected, sorted, and recycled exactly the same as HDPE. ” Braskem I’m green™ “ is entirely harmonious within the infrastructure we have, making them easily and readily recyclable. It also means that ” Braskem I’m green™ “ bio-based can be used over and over again, and the longer it is used and continues to be useful, the longer its carbon capturing benefits last.

How to recycle?

  • Please try to reuse or pass on the BiOBUDDi® building blocks as long as possible.
  • If reuse is not possible, sort the BiOBUDDi® building blocks with plastics (HDPE 2), and the box and leaflet with paper/cardboard, according to your local recycling guidelines.
  • Always check your local recycling options.

Biobased
+90% BIOBASED MATERIAL

What does this mean?

BioBUDDi is made of a material called ” Braskem I’m green™ “ bio-based HDPE”. More than 90% of each BiOBUDDi® building block is made from sugarcane according to the manufacturer. This is a totally biobased, natural and renewable resource. The claim applies to the material, not necessarily to the end product if additives or other materials are used.

  • According to the Braskem LCA (Nov 2023, KPMG-reviewed) and the Braskem PE-Verde Product Catalog (2014), the raw material is >95% bio-based.
  • Independent FKUR/BiOBUDDi® test reports confirm a biobased carbon content of 98–99% in the granulate used for our blocks

Carbon Negative Footprint
CARBON NEGATIVE FOOTPRINT

What does this mean?

The rawmaterial uses sugarcane which fixates carbon in the soil as it grows. Also the leftover production waste is used to make renewable electricity to power the material factory. Finally, as sugarcane absorbs carbon, it is present in the BIOBUDDI Brick as it has been captured from the atmosphere. More carbon is removed from the atmosphere than emitted.
Note: This applies to the raw material only, not the full product life cycle.

  • More than 90% of each BiOBUDDi® building block is made from ” Braskem I’m green™ bio-based HDPE “, which is certified as carbon negative at the material level.
  • The latest Life Cycle Assessment (Braskem, Nov 2023, KPMG-reviewed) shows a carbon footprint of –2.12 kg CO₂eq/kg (cradle-to-gate) for the raw material.
  • This means that more CO₂ is removed from the atmosphere than is emitted during the production of the bio-based HDPE.
